"What goes on inside is just too fast and huge and all interconnected for words to do more than barely sketch the outlines of at most one tiny little part of it at any given instant."
--David Foster Wallace (from 'Good Old Neon' in his book Oblivion)
This quote by David Foster Wallace pretty much summarizes my approach to drawing...I sit there and use my drawing instrument of choice as the vehicle through which I attempt to express what I'm experiencing inside of me at the time. Listening to music while drawing helps me with artistically articulating what's going on inside of me in a given moment - which, as David Foster Wallce so geniusly expresses, can be quite fast and complicated, to say the least.
The children's book, Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson, also serves to explain my drawing style - in that I never know where my drawing instrument will take me. I just sit back and immerse myself in the moment and see how my artistic journey evolves right before my very eyes. Drawing is an art form that allows me to experience this sort of 'in the moment'-goodness, which is inevitably reflected in my artworks.
